Lubero, DRC — On Friday, May 2, the AFC-M23 rebel group took control of Lunyasenge, a village located along the shores of Lake Edward in the Lubero territory of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. According to local sources, the rebels managed to dislodge Wazalendo fighters and some elements of the Congolese navy who were stationed in the area.
The takeover marks a significant shift in the security situation in Lubero, a region that has seen escalating tensions and frequent clashes between armed groups and government forces. Lunyasenge’s strategic location near the lake makes it a key area of interest for control and movement.
This development raises renewed concerns over the humanitarian situation in the area, as civilians continue to bear the brunt of the ongoing conflict.
